Watching A Single Man (2009) right now directed by Tom Ford. right now. It's a beautiful film but it shows how harsh it was for gays in 1962. Reminds me of what Hawk and Tim wen through. Main character lives in L.A. At the beginning of the film, Colin Firth's character's partner is killed in automobile accident in Ohio and he isn't allowed to go to the funeral. They had been together from 1946-1962. It's a beautiful film, cinematography, fashion, great looking men, Nicholas Hoult nude, Matthew Goode, Colin Firth, beautiful interiors, edgy encounter with a hustler. Julianne Moore is also great as a London/L.A. socialite. The movie doesn't shy away from the gayness as Firth's character lusts after those shirtless college boys playing tennis.. I wonder how FT would have turned out if Tom Ford had directed it? FT already has a lot of guys dressed very nice. It's also a very stylish mini-series. I recommend A Single Man. It's not as depressing as FT but the main character starts to debate whether his life is worth living, especially as the events take place during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The book was written by Christopher Isherwood in 1964 and there was blow black as to why would he write a sympathetic book about a gay male couple. Isherwood wasn't out at the time.
